The residence of the deseased was listed as near Milan, Spokane County, Washington. The estate was listed as real property- East half, of the South West corner or Section 34, Township 29, north of range 43, E. W. W. Community property was listed as being worth $800. Next of kin besides Sarah were listed as : John W. Apted, son, Deer Park, Wa. R.F. D. 1, Box 31; Amy Furness, formerly Apted, daughter, Creston, Wa.; Lucy Thornbrue, daughter, Wenatchee, Wa.; George Apted, son, unknown; and William Apted, son, Deerpark, Wa. Found in the Archives of the Spokane County Courthouse, Spokane, Wa. To find this property, we drove north of Spokane on State Highway 2 just before Riverside Community. At the water tower, turn left on Laurel road. When it turns into Findley road, you are in the middle of the old Apted homestead. We discovered the remains of the house, barn, and outbuildings. To get to the Milan Cemetery, where Henry and Sarah are buried, turn right off Highway Two on Laurel road. Go about 3 blocks to a cemetery with a chain link fence around it on the left side of the road. There is no sign identifiying it as the Milan Cemetery. She is buried in Section D, Row 6, Block 42, Lot 2 FHL-LDS Pine St., Spokane Film 0230399 Washington Statistics, Death Records, #2 1910-1919 #123 Apsted, Sarah, female, age 74, Spokane, Spokane County; death date, May 11, 1911, certificate # 187 Obituary of Sarah Apted- possibly in the Spokesman Review (Spokane, Wa.) or Wenatchee (Wa.) Daily World Mrs. Sarah Apted, who died at the home of Charles Furness on May 11, was born in England April 28, 1837. Her early life was spent in Oxfordshire with her parents. In 1862 she was married to Henry Apted, and in 1870 they came to Canada, where they remained for twelve years, moving to South Dakota with their family in 1882. From 1890 till the death of her husband in 1901, her home was in Milan, Washington, where she leaves a large number of friends. Since 1901, she had made her home with her oldest daughter, Mrs. Charles Furness, near Creston. She leaves five children, fifteen grandchildren, and many friends. Mrs. Apted was a member of the Methodist Church, which she united with in early life. The funeral of the late Mrs. Sarah Apted, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Furness, last Thursday, was held at the Presbyterian church here at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, Rev. George Bray conducting the services. The body was taken to Milan, Washington, Sunday for interment, beside that of her husband. Deceased was seventy four years old, and a native of England. To the memory of Grandmother Sarah was a cook in the home of James and Amelia Apted, parents of Henry. Her father was William Wakefield, a soldier. Sarah is buried in the cemetery at Milan, Wa. Sarah's early life was supposed to have been lived in Oxfordshire, England. |
