Henry and Sarah emigrated from England to Canada in 1870. They came to the U.S. in 1882 to South Dakota. This was verified by an aunt of Henry's, Maryann Dukes (Mrs. Charles Augustus Dukes). They were in Milan from 1890-1900.

Henry took a timber claim in Milan. They also lived in the Fort Spokane area.

A book of Psalms was given to Henry Apted when he sailed from England for Canada in 1870. It was given to him by his aunt and uncle, Charles Augustus and Marry Ann Dukes. In it was listed Henry and Sarah's birthdates--Henry- b. Sep. 29, (d. Feb. 9, 1901) and Sarah- b. April 24, 1837 (d. May 11, 1911).

Henry and Sarah, with George, Harry and Amy sailed from England on the Montreal Ocean Steamship Company ship, S. S. Strathblane. 460 passengers left on a 40 day trip to Canada. They left May 7, 1870 and arrived in Quebec on June 12, 1870; they were dispatched on June 13th. They are listed as English: Henry, 28; Sarah, 28; George, 4; Harry, 6, and Amy, infant.

Henry applied for a land grant in Meridian Township, Clark County, South Dakota in 1885. The federal land record was recorded June 23, 1885 for 160 acres. Doc. # 6182 for a land patent. Also listed BLM doc. # Id 3675. Randy found it on the internet. Check with him for documentation.
