Have notes that Louis was born 12-05-1850 in Albany and died 12-7-1900.
Moved to Houghton in 1873. He was a farmer and a lighthouse keeper. He was buried in the Old Protestant Cemetery, Hancock, Michigan Return of a Marriage to the clerk of the county of Houghton, state of Michigan On this 18th day of March, 1878, the following parties were joined in matrimony by me at Hancock, Houghton Town, Mi. Bridegroom- Louis Hauswirth, white, residence- Hancock Town; Age at last birthday, 27; birthplace, Albany, NY; Occ, farmer Bride- Emma Carolina Muff, white, residence- Hancock Town; age at last birthday, 17; birthplace, Huron Town, Houghton, Co., Mi. Witnesses: Andreas Koch of Hancock Town and Anna Muff of Hancock Town C. F. Ebert, Pastor State of Michigan Record of death- Page 3 Date of death- Dec. 7, 1900 Full name- Louis Hauswirth, male, white, married Age- 50 years, 19 days Place of death- Hancock Disease or cause of death- Erysipelas Birthplace- New York Occupation- Farmer Parents- father- Andreas Hauswirth mother- unknown Residence- Michigan The Daily Mining Gazette, Dec. 8, 1900, probably Oskar or Hancock, Mi. Louis Hauswirth Dead Passed Away at 8 o'clock Yesterday Morning Louis Hauswirth, 41 years, died at 8 o'clock yesterday morningat his home on his farm near Oskar after being sick about two weeks with erysipelas. He was a range? light keeper for the government, the lights in the vicinity of his farm having been under his care the past two or three years. Mr. Hauswirth was born in New York state. During his younger days he learned the printing trade, which he followed for several years prior to coming to Lake Superior. He came to the copper country 27 years ago and has resided here continuouslly ever since. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his demise. He was a member of Kaiser Wilhelm Lodge, No. 5, Order of the Hermann Sons. The funeral will be held Sunday morning with services at the German Lutheran Church at Hancock and will be in charge of the Hermann Sons. The interment will take place in the family lot in the old cemetery. John Hauswirth, a brother who had not seen Louis for many years, accompanied by his wife, arrived here Tuesday for a short vacation to be spent with Louis. He was greatly surprised to find Louis unconcious and at the point of death. John was a former resident of this city and went to Chicago several years ago. |
