Born in Wenatchee, Wa. at St. Anthony's Hospital. Social Security # is 533-38-5846
Worked for 29 years at Nordstrom selling shoes. Retired on disability on December 24, 1991. Developed asthma at age 40 and became a steroid dependent asthmatic, which caused osteoporosis in his back, leading to early retirement. Is a Children's Church teacher at Washington Cathedral; has written three curriculum lesson books for his classes. Sings in the church choir. Enjoys golf and traveling, also crossword puzzles. Taught himself ventriloquism, and uses his two vent dolls, , Boaz and the Reverend Cletus Hayseed when he works with children. He also has an old man, Dingus McTavish, who he uses with adults. Attended Western Washington University and Wenatchee Valley College. Spent 6 winters in Baja Mexico, three of which he pastored the church on the beach at Playa Santispac, south of Mulege, Baja Sur. The church, Iglesia Bahia Concepcion, ministered to the gringos in the area. The outreach of the church included giving the entire offering at season's end to the Hogar Anciano (Old Folks Home) in Santa Rosalia. The Santa Conspiracy trip is a week long campout where Santa and his helpers give out food, clothing, school supplies, and toys to the people in the remote fish camps and villages in Baja Sur. The day he was to leave for the Baja (Oct. 13, 2003), he became ill. He was hospitalized on the 14th and diagnosed with cellulitis in his left leg (knee to ankle). On the 16th, he went into respiratory distress and was put on a ventillator. He was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria) and was operated on to remove flesh from his leg. He was transported by helicopter from Providence Everett to Harborview Hospital in Seattle, Wa. at 2 a.m. the 17th. He had surgeries on the 17th and 18th. On the 19th the bacteria had spread so fast that he was taken off life support at 8:30 p.m. and he died at 9:30 p.m. He was cremated at Green Funeral Home on Oct. 22nd (cremation # 18849). The funeral home is at 1215- 145th Pl. S. E., Bellevue, Wa. 98007 (425-747-6240). A celebration of Arden's life was held at Washington Cathedral on Oct. 24th. The church is located at 12300 Woodinville-Redmond Road, Redmond, Wa. 98052 (425-869-5433). Pastor Tim White officiated, with Pastors Linda Skinner, Tony Easterly, Michael Fernandez and David Gersenzye. Two hundred people attended the service. Obituaries were in the Wenatchee World, King County Journal and Seattle Times. Arden Roy Apted, born July 25, 1940 in Wenatchee, Washington; died October 19th, 2003 at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. Arden was born to Harold Francis Apted and Ruth Mae Inglis Apted. Graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, class of 1958; he later attended Wenatchee Valley College and Western Washington University. Arden retired from Nordstrom's Department Store in 1991, after a 30 year employment. He was a charter member of the Washington Cathedral in Redmond, Washington. Arden and his wife, Linda made annual trips to the Baja penninsula in Mexico where they started a church which ministered to snow birds, with outreach programs for the people of Mexico. Arden played a key role in the developmento of youth soccer on the eastside; he was a ventriloquist, a Bible School teacher, painter, golfer, baseball fan, father and dedicated husband. He is survived by his wife, Linda Rohlman Apted of Marysville, son, Christopher, daughter-in-law, Karol, grandchildren, Samantha and Ian of Liberty Lake, Washington and by his son, Randall of Bellevue, Wa. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Perkins of Athens, Georgia, two uncles, eleven nephews, nine nieces, many cousins, and even more friends. On December 5, 2003 a memorial service was held at Playa Santispac and some of his ashes were spread in the bay of Concepcion, which was where he held services. 27 attended the service. The ashes were spread by a reef that you can see from the beach where he camped and held church. The coordinates are: longitude- north 26 degrees 45 minutes .064 Latitude west 111 degrees 52 minutes 895 seconds in the Bay of Concepcion. Wreaths were also tossed into the water for Bruce, his cousin who died in January, and for Arden. The church continues with Roy Lofts, pastoring. A palapa church will be built at Playa Los Naranjos in March, 2004. |
