Prostate cancer. Chemo; in remission
Cancerous kidney removed Dec. 2003; cancer in spine discovered. Prostate cancer metasticized in chest, groin, spine, head. (2004-5} Commemoration Services at Wenatchee Free Methodist Church. Thursday, July 28, 2005- obiturary in Wenatchee World: Donald William "Don" Telford- East Wenatchee, 66, a longtime resident and businessman of East Wenatchee, died early Monday morning, July 25, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his family. {3 a.m. with Judi, Brett and Vicki} He was born June 17, 1939, to Ernest Richard and Christena Victoria (Hogman) Telford, pioneer Opheim, Montana residents. The family moved to Plain, Washington in March of 1945, when Don was 5 years of age. He attended the Plain Elementary School for four years and then completed his schooling with the class of 1957, in Leavenworth. Don went to work for Schuster's Plumbing in Wenatchee in 1959. He later moved to Seattle, where he became a plumbers apprentice and attended a plumbing Technical School. He competed in the National competition for plumbers and pipe fitters at Purdue University and out of 500 competitors, he finished second in the competition. He was married to Judi Rohlman on August 25, 1963, in Wenatchee. They made their first home in Seattle. He then went to work for Schmid Plumbing in Seattle, purchasing the business the following year and renaming it Far West Mechanical. In 1970, he moved the business to East Wenatchee, locating at 14 Rock Island Road. The business became Far West Mechanical, Inc., which then included plumbing and heating. In 1974, he purchased Ace Metal and renamed that business Far West Services and Steel Fabrication Division. During the time Don had his business in Seattle, he had become associated with General Electric and worked as a sub-contractor for G. E. at John Day Dam. This association with G. E. continued when he moved his business to East Wenatchee. He received many G. E. contracts which included projects in Alaska, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. He also landed contracts for turbine work at Rocky Reach and Rock Island Dams and held a continuing mechanical contract at Alcoa and Lamb Weston for many years. He was president of the Mechanical Contractors Association in Seattle for a one year term, was a member of Associated General Contractors and was a member of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union #32. Don was a partner in several property developments in our area which included Wapato Point, Black Bird Island, Pacific Village Apartments, Cedarwood Apartments and Briarwood. Don became involved in a number of community activities. He served on the Chelan County Sheriff's Posse, was a past president of the North Central Washington District Fair Board, served on the Land Title Board, and from 1978 to 1983, he served on the Douglas County Fire Commissioners Board. Don served on the Central Washington Bank Board and as its Chairman of the Board, and also served on the board of their holding company. Don had been a member of the Wenatchee Rotarty Club. The East Wenatchee Rotary Club presented him with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award at the Rotary District 506 conference in Kamloops, B.C., Canada, for the many hours of "service above self" that he gave to the East Wenatchee Rotary Club during their years of staging air shows. To the Club's knowledge, this was the first time in the history of District 506 that one Rotary club had given a Paul Harris Fellowship Award to a member of another Rotary Club. Don donated a pair of scissor-like jaws called the "Jaws of Life" to the Douglas County Volunteer Fireman' s Association in 1973. He was a life member of the Genesis Lodge #305 of F & AM of Edmonds, Wa. He belonged to the Natapoc/Chumstick Grange, and was a supporter of Life-Tract Family Minisries. He was named "Citizen of the year o 1975" by the East Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Mallard Ranch Duck Hunting Club near Othello, and was a sponsor member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Don was also a member of an association of men friends called the P. O. KERR group, which was a unique group of guys who loved to fish, golf, play liar's poker, and tell stories! He was especially proud to be a member of this group. Don had been an active member of the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club and served on its board. He completed Jim Davis' term as Club President in 1985-86, and then continued on as club president for another year in 1986-87. He was also a member of the Leavenworth Golf Club, the Big Island Golf Club on the island of Hawaii, and Eagle Bend Golf Club in Big Fork, Montana. His passion for life included golf, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends around one of his many barbeques. He was considered a master chef at barbeques. And he was known to often pull out his guitar or ukulele on a moments notice and initiate a sing-a-long. He is survived by his wife, Judi at home; one son, Brett Telford and daughtet-in-law, DeeDee of East Wenatchee; one daughter, Vicki Sherman and son-in-law, Mark of Big Fork, Montana; three granddaughters, Taylor and Shae of East Wenatchee, and Stephanie Sherman of Big Fork, Montana; two brothers and one sister-in-law. E. R. "Bud" Telford of Puyallup, Wa. and Jim and Corrine Telford of Wenatchee; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Hazel Hawken, Marilyn Crollard, Marlys Parsons and Delta and Ken Wood all of East Wenatchee; and a longtime employee and family friend, Patty Eidson of Wenatchee. Don was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Maynard Johnson, Vivian Anderson, Floy Shawlee, and Joanne Telford in infancy; two brothers, Kenneth Telford, and on May 13, 2005, Frank Telford. Commemoration Services for Donald William "Don" Telford will be conducted at the Wenatchee Free Methodist Church, 1601 Fifth Street, Wenatchee, Friday, July 29, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Greg McPherson officiating. Private Internment at Wenatchee Cemetery will preced the services. Visitation will be at Telford's Chapel of the Valley on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the North Central Washington District Fair Building Fund, the Central Washington Hospital Hospice Program or to Wellness Place.
