Most people only head the 3.4 miles to Snow Lake, which is a wonderful hike, provided you don’t mind the trail being a bit like I-5 on a rainy Friday night. So when I headed to Gem lake, I went in October when crowds would be gone. If your looking for Gem Lake, start on the Snow Lake trail and head toward the end of the lake. A mere two miles further is a beautiful alpine lake, that never gets the recognition of its big brother, and thankfully so. From Gem lake you can also continue on to Wright Mountain, as well as taking the High Lakes trail to both Upper and Lower Wildcat lakes. For the WTA page for Gem Lake, Click Here
