The Laugavegur Trail

The trail makes its way from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk .  The Laugavegur Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in Iceland. National Geographic listed it as one of the most beautiful trails in the world. The trail goes through incredibly colourful rhyolite mountains, black obsidian lava and a small forrest. The trek features hot springs, steam vents, lakes, streams, rivers, canyons, glaciers, volcanos and so much more. Just getting to the trailhead is an adventure.  Take a mountain bus to Landmannalaugar and enjoy the ride deep into the back country, often fording rivers and small lakes.  This is the tour company I went with and heartily recommend them, Icelandic Mountain Guides.
